Simone Hayes – Founder Energy Fitness

Personal Trainer, Running Coach, Outdoor Group Fitness Trainer

Simone is an experienced Level 3 Personal Trainer (Fitness Australia) and Level 3 Performance & Development Trail & Ultramarathon Coach (Athletics Australia) and started Energy Fitness in 2006. She loves to share her fondness of all things fitness and outdoors, inspiring others to find their inner strength and potential, whilst embracing the beautiful surrounds of the Sutherland Shire in her Outdoor Sessions.

Simone helps her clients to work to their potential and discover what they are truly capable of.  Call it a bit of tough love, as her classes are no walk in the park, but if you trust her and let you guide her, the results will speak for themselves. Everybody has a different fitness level, a different pain threshold and a different tolerance to exercise. Let Simone help you find your inner strength and get you out of your comfort zone, as she knows that everyone is capable of more than they realise. You’ll be able to achieve what you never thought possible and you’ll never look back.

Simone ran Energy Fitness successfully on her own for 11 years and is now pleased to welcome on board Elissa Mayo (PT) and Yoga instructors Joanne Gates and Saskia Mulder to enhance the offerings to her clients and extend the timetable. Jenny Henville (PT & Run Coach) also helps out on Saturday Morning Trail Runs. All staff bring a whole new dimension to training and their own personal touches, and we believe that our services complement each other very well.

We all have the same passion and training philosophy that will ensure our clients get results. By combining forces we can offer you the best fitness and health package in the Sutherland Shire. We also work closely with Allied Health professionals in the area to help you with injuries and prevention.

Simone has a passion for trail and ultra running and has had extensive experiences in distances from 10km-100mile. She continues to raise the bar by challenging herself, in the hope that she inspires her own athletes to strive to achieve. In 2019 she was selected to represent Australia in the 24 Hour World Championships in Albi, France in October. Running around a track is not what she is used to and this was WAY out of her comfort zone, but she practices what she preaches and leads by example. She then tackled the 240km road run Coast 2 Kosciusko in 2020. In 2022 she was lucky enough to gain an entry into Western States Endurance Run 100 miles after 7 years of entering and qualifying! Read her race report here!

In 2020 Simone was elected to the committee  of  AURA – Australian Ultra Runners Association and in 2023 was elected as the first ever female President, where she is passionate about supporting and nurturing the sport of ultra running in Australia and feels this is her way to give back to the sport she loves. She wants you to achieve your goals too, whatever they may be. Start small and you never know where you will end up!

We look forward to helping you change your life!

Elissa Mayo – Cert IV Personal Trainer

Elissa is a certified personal and group trainer and although comparatively new to the field, she has a strong understanding of physical fitness having been involved in sports her whole life. She has been working with large corporates developing and delivering group fitness sessions as well as corporate initiatives and challenges for the last 3 years. Elissa has long history of involvement in many sports. Most recently she has enjoyed her running, having completed a number of Trail races such as the Coastal Classic, as well as Trail Ultra-Marathons including the Six Foot Track and the UTA50.

“I’ve really enjoyed my last few years as a personal trainer of being able to help people achieve their goals, watch them build their physical fitness, and more importantly their self-confidence which I think goes hand in hand. I have played and enjoyed many different sports in my life and I think this variety is why I stay active. I like to take that same approach with my personal and group training sessions, always trying to mix things up to keep people on their toes and interested.”

We love having you on the team Elissa!

Joanne Gates – Yoga

Jo is a trained physiotherapist (non-practicing) and has been practicing yoga for 20 years and teaching for 13.

A message from Jo:

“I have a love of learning and a passion for yoga and teaching. Over the years I have studied with many teachers both locally and internationally in various styles of yoga. I incorporate the best of what I have learned, as well as my knowledge and understanding of the body from my years as a physio, into my teaching. My classes are fun, creative and mindfully sequenced to open and strengthen the body in a safe and healthy way. I love yoga for many reasons, but particularly because it provides a wonderful counterbalance not only to other forms of training, but also to our hectic and busy lives. I can’t wait to share yoga with you. Namaste, Jo”

Classes on offer are Power Yoga – a more dynamic and strength based yoga that is challenging and fun, and then Chill Flow Yoga which is a more gentle yoga focused on flexibility, stretching and relaxing – I’d recommend you try both as both are two very different sessions and Jo’s sessions are ever changing – you’ll love it!

Saskia Mulder – Yoga

Saskia started doing yoga 30 years ago and never looked back. She has practiced in countless yoga studios over the decades both in Australia and
overseas, taking classes in Hatha, Iyengar, Yin, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hot Power and Bikram Yoga. She believes that as yogis we are life-long students and teachers, and wants to spread the joy of yoga to others so they can experience its amazing physical and mental benefits.

She is committed to teaching students of all levels and her mission is:

• To teach people from all different backgrounds, ages and levels the wonderful physical and mental benefits of yoga
• To bring about positive change in the way people feel about themselves, their family and their work
• To make a contribution to students’ yoga practice and giving them the tools they need to take a class in a yoga studio or practice on their
own

Thank you Saskia for being a part of the Energy Fitness Team.
